Last week two international business summit sessions were held at JETRO Nagoya. The first session was about website marketing know-how for marketing in abroad, mainly in China. The session focused on what types of services JETRO will offer to business who want to sell to different customer segments such as B2B and B2C. Selling abroad is very appealing to Japanese companies, as the market in Japan will continue to shrink, but even with "help" from JETRO the prospects for successful sales abroad without in-country support (internet only marketing and sales) is difficult to realize.
Legal and regulatory compliance issues were not discussed in the sessions. Other topics such as import restrictions, taxation issues, should be part of the discussion as well. Recently, manufacturing liability has become a core issue as products like the hover-board (500,000 boards) have been recalled.
